Israel-Palestine agreed on ceasefire

Israel-Palestine News LIVE Updates: Israel and Palestine called a truce and agreed to a ceasefire on Thursday, halting 11-days of hostilities that brought about widespread destruction in the Gaza Strip and left over 200 people dead. Many Palestinians who had spent the last eleven days huddled in their homes, poured into streets to celebrate. While both sides have accepted the truce, they said they stood ready to retaliate for any violations by the other. In Gaza, over 232 people lost their lives, including 65 children and Israel lost 12 people, including 2 children.

The struggle between Israelis and Palestinians is one of the world's most enduring conflicts, with the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip reaching 53 years. Various attempts have been made to resolve the conflict as part of the Israeli–Palestinian peace process.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Friday welcomed a ceasefire brokered between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist movement which controls the Gaza Strip, after 11 days of deadly fighting. "Good that there is now a ceasefire," Maas tweeted, a day after he visited Israel and Ramallah for talks. "Now we have to deal with the causes, rebuild trust and find a solution to the Middle East conflict," he said.
